News Release August 2005 Vernon, CT
Vernon Police Department will swear in two former Vernon Police Explorers in a ceremony on Monday, August 22, 2005 at 10:00am, at Headquarters. Sergeant Mel Hardy will be promoted to Police Lieutenant. Officer Luke Gallant will be swore in as a new Vernon Police Explorer. Both men are former Vernon Police Explorers who started their interest in Law Enforcement as Police Explorers. Both men make there homes in the Vernon area. Sergeant Hardy has been with Vernon Police Dept a number of years. Besides being on the Police Explorer Committee, Mel has been instrumental in many department functions, including securing the much needed Night vision equipment as well as working on department history. Mel grew up in Tolland and was an Explorer from 1978 to 1985. Luke Gallant grew up in Vernon and spent many years as a Vernon Police Explorer, riding with officers on patrol and various other police related functions. Luke later moved to Maine where he became a Police Officer. Both officers bring compassion and experience to the Department.
